Church History
The Stanaford Road Baptist Church was started as a mission station of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church by Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Wiley in 1955. The original work started with four families in a small building across the street from its present site.
On June 6, 1959, this group of people began construction on a building to provide a place of worship on a lot that had been donated by Boyd Baisden, who had been saved as a result of the mission station. Dewey Coffey and Vestus Dove were hired to do the work with each individual member contributing what he could. The dedication service for the completed building was conducted by B. C. Jennings on August 16, 1959.
Until October 4, 1959, the church was a Sunday School branch of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church . At that time the church voted to call George Bailey as the pastor. Pastor Bailey also served as principal of the Mt. Tabor Christian School.
From that time until the present there have been five different pastors—George Bailey, Brent Branham, Gordon Ross, Ron Nichols, and Lyell Zickafoose.
On June 6, 1979, in a business meeting called to order by the current pastor, Lyell Zickafoose, initial discussion on plans for a new church building took place. The following year, September 7, 1980, the dedication service for the present church was conducted. Currently the church continues to conduct services in this building.
